During the summer season coaching sessions are held following the British Canoe Union 1-3 star award scheme. There are also total beginners courses run on Wednesday evenings which last for 6 weeks. When the beginners course finishes you are welcome to join the normal Thursday club nights and integrate into the courses or paddling trips being run. If you have paddled before and just wish to join the club please contact us and come along.
If you are above 11 years old Tamar Canoe Association welcomes you, the club will accept younger people down to 8 years old but under the discretion of the coaches, availablitity of coaches on the night and must be accompanied by an adult on the water.
When you have become a member you are welcome to use the clubs equipment under the supervision of a qualified coach during club nights or activities. You will need to bring your own suitable clothing - kayak or canoe, helmet, bouyancy aid and paddle will be supplied if you turn up early enough!
All of our coaches are volunteers and dedicate their time for others to enjoy their sport. During winter months white water and estuary trip are run subject to coaches availability.
Swimming Pool sessions are also run during the winter months for members who wish you continue throughout the year improving their skills in warm clear water, these sessions are subject to an additional payment as we have to hire the swimming pool.
Apart from the beginners courses which are subject to an additional cost the membership cost covers coaching, use of equipment and also a discount in kayaks and Paddles - upto 15%
